Kolby takes up drinking coffee...

We had an interesting morning this morning. Who am I kidding; we usually have interesting mornings in our house! I got up this morning a little earlier than usual to do some prenatal Pilates before I woke Kolby up. When I was done I woke him up, gave him breakfast, and set out my supplies to make coffee. I was feeling pretty proud of myself that I had exercised before breakfast and that I was being organized.  Since Kolby was entertained with his breakfast (We use a large KONG toy so it takes him longer to eat) I hopped into the shower. When I got out I went to check on him, we usually don’t leave him unsupervised for more than a few minutes. I found him sitting on our couch with my coffee tin open beside him and powdered coffee covering the couch. He was furiously licking as much of the powder up as he could. I ran over and shooed him off. My first thought was “that’s the coffee I was going to have for breakfast!!” Then I realized the slip cover was going to have to be taken off and washed because I couldn’t get the powder cleaned up. While I was messing with the slip cover Kolby was sitting licking the remaining powder off his face. I remembered reading caffeine was not good for dogs so figured I better Google it to make sure he’d be okay. Turns out caffeine can be very toxic to dogs in high amounts.  Since I didn’t know how much he had ingested I ended up waking Keith up to explain the situation and then leaving Kolby in our bedroom so Keith could watch him for any issues. I texted Keith a few times to see how he was doing and at one point he was sleeping and the other playing with his favorite rope so I think he’s okay. Not sure what I’m going to do with him.

This is the same dog that ate ½ a stick of butter, about half a watermelon worth of rinds, and all the leaves off a plant this weekend while we were at my parents. We were pretty concerned about the large number of watermelon rinds he stole and ate but luckily he didn’t seem to have any issues.
