Mom's Vegetable Soup (Not my moms!:)

Keith has something against my 8 can vegetable soup so I thought i'd try a new vegetable soup recipe. He seemed to like this one more.

What you need:
-6 cups water
-7 potatoes, peeled and chopped
-1/2 head cabbage, shredded
-1 to 2 onions, chopped
-16oz can mixed vegetables
-16oz can peas, drained
-2 8oz cans tomato sauce
-1 1/2 cup elbow macaroni, uncooked
-1/2 cup bacon drippings (didn't use this ingredient because I didn't have it)
-2 t. salt
-1 t. pepper
-Keith likes meat so I decided to brown 1lb of ground beef and add it. I thought it worked well but it isn't in the ingredient list.

What you need to do:
Place water in a 5 qt stockpot over high heat. Add potatoes, cabbage and onions; bring to a roiling boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Stir in remaining ingredients; add more water as needed to fill pot. Return to a rolling boil. Simmer, covereed, for 20 minutes, or until soup is thickened and macaroni is tender. Add additional salt and pepper to taste.
